For more than 60 years, The McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT) has been used all over the world to assess and manage spinal and extremity musculoskeletal disorders. Here at CORA, patients with back, neck and extremity issues can work with clinicians specially trained in this system, developed by New Zealand physiotherapist Robin McKenzie.
Most musculoskeletal pain is caused by sustained postures and the way we move. Some of our repeated movements can aggravate the pain, and some can bring relief.
A CORA clinician certified in MDT performs an initial assessment before developing an appropriate plan of action. This assessment can often make expensive tests such as MRIs unnecessary.
While some think the McKenzie approach is just a set of exercises you can do on your own, it’s actually a comprehensive program of assessment, treatment, and prevention strategies best learned with a physical therapist specially trained in MDT. The CORA team teaches certain movements and postures that can help you control or eliminate your pain and restore function.
